Peer Review

Peer Review - 2D Animation

In this assignment I am going to get feedback from my peers in order to review my animation. Once I have gathered all my feedback from Padlet I am going to analyse the results. So I can critically assess my work.

What is your own personal response to the animation you have been produced?

Overall, I am very happy with how my animation turned out. I put many hours work into making it, so I was pleased to see all of the hard work had paid off.

What is your response to the feedback you have received?

I set up a page on Padlet.com, which allowed me to gather comments on one page with no fuss. My class offered feedback after watching some pieces of my work.

The feedback for my 2D animation can be seen at this link: http://padlet.com/wall/8pruu53ly63c

Other class mates who peer reviewed my work also gave feedback and some suggested improvements for me and things I could have done differently.

There were some mixed views on my work, however, all of them were positive. Some pupils just suggested ways I could make it even better. I have shown some examples of the feedback I received from them.

This comment suggested that the animation would have been better if I hadn't reversed the animation, which I think is  a fair comment. However, I personally think it really adds something else to the animation and keeps the viewers interests up right until the last second. I thought it was very satisfying to have a build up in music as the animation is going in reverse and then take the animation to black right when the song was at it's climax.

These were generally the only two kind of comments I got back from the class. However, as much as I respect these comments and bits of feedback, I will not be including titles or credits in the animation, as I took the artistic decision to leave them out. I love the abruptness of the ending and I feel like credits or titles would ruin that and also take away the uniqueness of the animation

Based on this level of response, how could you have improved your production?

Based on the feedback I received from my peers, I believe I could improve this animation by adding some better quality sound effects, which would bring the production value up and make it look and sound more professional.

Some comments suggested that I could have added titles, however, I think it worked better without. I personally think the animation is a bit 'flat' and it would have been nice if the objects in the animation had their own shadows. So if I was to improve the animation, I would definitely add highlights and shadows to the objects to give it an extra edge.

Will you make these improvements to your production based on your feedback?

Honestly, I don't think I will apply these improvements to the animation, as I don't like to go back and edit something that s already finished. However, I will definitely take these comments into consideration when I next create an animation.
